Imaging Center at the FS-CPC

FS-CPC's New Imaging Center Begins Operations

September 2026 – An important milestone for the Friede Springer – Cardiovascular Prevention Center (FS-CPC): Following extensive renovation and remodeling work, the new Imaging Center in the basement of the main building on the Benjamin Franklin Campus has begun operations. In the newly premises, the research center now has access to a state-of-the-art MRI and CT infrastructure for cardiovascular prevention research.

The first examinations at the new Imaging Center have already taken place: participants in the Heart Health Study are being examined here using innovative imaging. This marks the Imaging Center’s successful launch of its research operations.

At the heart of the new equipment are two state-of-the-art large-scale machines: The NAEOTOM Alpha·Peak works with the innovative photon-counting CT technology and enables high-resolution imaging with slice thicknesses of up to 0.2 millimeters while reducing radiation dose and providing exceptionally detailed visualization of vascular structures. The MAGNETOM Vida 3T, a 3-Tesla high-field MRI, complements the system with automated, patient-specific adjustments and AI-assisted reconstruction for fast, high-resolution images.

At the Imaging Center, working on the imaging of tomorrow. In the field of CT, research is focused, among other things, on new approaches to analyzing vascular plaques, as well as optimized scan protocols and AI-supported workflows for prevention . In MRI research, a key focus is on innovative imaging methods and new biomarkers designed to help better detect early, previously undetected changes in the cardiovascular system. As the existing partnership with Siemens Healthineers is also the installation of new research sequences for imaging the heart, blood vessels, and other organs is planned.

State-of-the-art technology is just one part of the new Imaging Center. What really matters are the peoplewho use it for research: Here, a variety of areas of expertise come together to make the best possible use of the new imaging techniques for cardiovascular research and to further develop them.

With the Imaging Center, the FS-CPC not only gains new infrastructure for its studies but also a platform for further developing innovative imaging technologies for prevention.
